Mimi Ito

I am a cultural anthropologist specializing in learning and new media, particularly among young people in Japan and the US. My research right now focuses on how to support socially connected learning experiences for young people. I am co-founder of Connected Camps and I am part of the Connected Learning Alliance.

My focus these days:

I direct the Connected Learning Lab, a research Institute at UC Irvine dedicated to studying and mobilizing and studying learning technologies in equitable, innovative, and learner-centered ways

In 2015, I co-founded Connected Camps, a nonprofit that offers online connected learning and near-pear mentorship programs in popular platforms such as Minecraft and Roblox

I lead the Youth Connections for Wellbeing project, together with Candice Odgers and Stephen Scheuller, looking at how youth can best support each other’s wellbeing through social and digital media
